Cheyenne’s Middle School provides a rigorous, high school preparatory education that challenges students academically while developing the skills and confidence needed for success in high school and beyond. Approximately 350 students in grades 6–8 participate in an advanced curriculum consisting of five core classes—Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Humanities—along with two elective periods.

Elective Opportunities

Students choose from a variety of engaging electives including Spanish, Art, Music, Band, Orchestra, Computers (required in 6th grade), STEM, Financial Literacy, Physical Education, and Peer Mentoring. These courses allow students to explore their interests while developing new skills beyond the core curriculum.

Accelerated Learning Opportunities

Cheyenne students are well prepared for high school success. More than 75% of our middle school students are enrolled in advanced math courses, with many earning high school credit in Algebra I and Geometry/Trigonometry before entering ninth grade. Students may also earn high school Spanish credit by completing Intro to Spanish in 7th grade followed by Spanish I in 8th grade.

Cheyenne Traditional School also maintains an elevated grading scale:

  • A: 93–100%
  • B: 84–92%
  • C: 72–83%
  • D: 60–71%

A Unique Academic Advantage

One of the features that sets Cheyenne apart is that Humanities and Language Arts are taught as two separate 45-minute classes. While many schools combine these subjects into a single class period, Cheyenne dedicates instructional time to each discipline.

This dedicated instructional time allows students to build stronger writing, grammar, and communication skills in Language Arts while developing deeper reading comprehension, literature analysis, vocabulary, and Greek and Latin root studies in Humanities. The result is greater academic proficiency and a stronger foundation for success in high school and beyond.

Athletics & Student Activities

Middle school is about more than academics. Students can participate in competitive sports and a variety of clubs that encourage leadership, teamwork, creativity, and service while helping students build lasting friendships and explore new interests.

Preparing for High School

Cheyenne provides students with a strong academic foundation while encouraging leadership, creativity, and personal growth through academics, electives, athletics, and extracurricular activities—preparing them for success in high school and beyond.
