Amazing
Race at the Zoo
|
Held
for the first time in 2010, this is AMAZING event that has the
kids grouped in teams by class and compete against each other
by solving puzzles for bragging rights and prizes.
Held
in April, it is also our only fundraiser that we hold during the
year if we meet our "Fair Share" fundraising goals.
The proceeds go to technology or other large purchases that directly
benefit our students in their class rooms.
Volunteers
needed: 4 or 5 Chairpersons and then 20 key committee members.
The day of the event more volunteers are needed as chaperones
and stagers.

Artist
in Residence
|
An
Artist comes to work with either 3rd, 4th or 5th Grade depending
on the year to work with the students over a 2 week period.

needed: 1 Lead Coordinator

Tops & Campbell Soup Labels
|
Box tops and Campbell's Soup Labels to earn money for Cheyenne!
Volunteers
needed: 2 Co-Chairs to market, collect and submit the box tops
or labels to earn money for Cheyenne.

Colonial
Day
|
A
fun day-long event focusing on the Colonial Days of the past for
the 5th Grade
Volunteers
needed: 40 or so 5th Grade Parents to help run the different stations
during the day. All volunteers and 5th grade students dress up
for the event.

Directory
|
The
list of PTO Members. This is worth it's weight in gold! It is
the only listing of the students and their contact information
and is only available to PTO Members.
Volunteers
needed: 1 Lead Coordinator to solicit and collect ads for the
PTO Directory of Members as well as coordinates the layout, printing
and distribution of the Directory to the PTO Members.

Email
|
The
PTO's primary method of communication is via email. We try to
keep emails to a minimum and from one source.

needed: 1 Lead Coordinator to send out emails to Cheyenne population.

E-Scrip
|
E-scrip
is a program supported by many local stores and online vendors
that give money back to the school using a special code indicating
Cheyenne Traditional School as the recipient school.

Evening
Under the Stars
|
Evening
Under the Stars" is a wonderful, cultural, mid-year open
house and fundraiser. Families are invited to come view the kid's
artwork displayed in the cafeteria, meet with the teacher's in
the classrooms, have a picnic dinner at school, and listen to
the school bands
Volunteers
needed: 2 Co-Chairs and team of 4 or 5 to coordinate the event.
Numerous
volunteers are needed the day of the event to frame all the children's
artwork and put it on display.

Field
Days
|
Field
Days are fun days in March where each grade gets to compete in
a number of athletic events both individually and as teams.
Volunteers
needed: 1 Lead Coordinator and 30+ volunteers for each day

| Fresh&Easy |
A
great opportunity to make money for the school. From September
to April, Fresh and Easy grocery store will give us $1 for every
$20 we spend. We also have a Fresh&Easy night where they give
us an additional 5% of the total reciepts!

Grant
Writing
|
The
only grant we usually apply for is for the Artist
in Residence in January. This allows us to fund the cultural
event.

Greek
Day
|
A
fun day-long event in February focusing on the ancient Greece
for the 6th Grade with 5 rotating stations plus 5 Olympic games.
Volunteers
needed: 40-50 6th Grade Parents to help run the different stations
during the day.

Harvest
Fest
|
This
is our completely fun celebration of fall! A premiere event that
has a number of booths, activities and fun stations that the entire
student body and their families, neighbors and friends attend.
Volunteers
needed: 1 or 2 Co-Chairs and 20-30 volunteers to help plan and
coordinate the event.
100
or so volunteers are needed the night of the event to run the
different events and booths.

Health
Screening
|
Each
SUSD school runs a health screening at the beginning of school
for all the students. This is headed up by our School Nurse.
Volunteers
needed: 1 Lead Coordinator and during the one day of Health Screening,
30 to 35 volunteers are needed.

Jump
for Heart
|
An
annual event supporting the American Heart Association. All students
collect donations and jump rope during their PE hour.
Volunteers
needed: 1 Lead Coordinator and then a number of volunteers to
help the younger grades the day of the event.
|
|
Membership
|
Last
year we tried "Fair Share Fundraising" for the first
time. Instead of having our kids sell things, we instead asked
for a set amount per child. Some gave more, some less, but we
were able to get more members than ever as well as more money
than ever. This allowed us not sell candy, gift wrap, entertainment
books, etc.
Volunteers
needed: 1 Lead Coordinator and 1 or 2 other volunteers who are
responsible for getting all Cheyenne Families to join the PTO
at the beginning of the year. This includes being at Back-to-School
Day to collect memberships and money.

Newsletter
|
Every
Friday during the school year, a newsletter is sent home via email
to the PTO Membership. This keeps everyone updated to the events
and goings-on at our wonderful school.
Volunteers
needed: 1 Newsletter Coordinator to organize submitted articles,
layout the newsletter and then email it to the PTO members.

Outreach
|
Cheyenne
has a huge heart - and one way we show it is through our Outreach.
For our students in need, we give school supplies, uniforms and
other support during the school year to make it easier.
Volunteers
needed: 1 or 2 Lead Coordinators

Parent
Council
|
This
is a great way to learn about the school district: how it operates,
how its funded, and all of the programs and opportunities our
district provides.
Cheyenne
representatives that attend the Scottsdale Parent Council meetings
and report back to PTO Board. They promote and educate parents
and voters regarding initiatives that affect education funding
such as overrides and state bills and tax issues

Picture
Day
|
Each
year we have 2 picture days, one for individual pictures and class
pictures and another for group pictures.

Publicity
|

dates are posted there!

Room
Parent Coodinator / Teacher Appreciation
|
Our
home room parents are the lifeblood of the school. They coordinate
the different classroom parties, events and communication.
Volunteers
needed - 2 Co-Chairs to work with the 36+ Room Parents. Fields
any questions from home room parents, put together address sheet
of all home room parents, hold 2 meetings to go over 1st half
of the school year & the 2nd half of the school year. We put
together a nice luncheon during teacher appreciation and a casual
lunch the last day of school.

Parent Specials
|
Specials
at Cheyenne are Music, Art, PE and Library. The teachers there
are wonderful!
Our
Specials Group coordinates the gifts and appreciation events for
the Specials Teachers on behalf of the entire Cheyenne Community.

Scholastic
Book Fair
|
You
remember this when you were in school, right? Each year for a
week we have a book fair in the library! Kids can purchase books
at great deals and the Cheyenne Library benefits!
Volunteers
needed - 2 co-chairs to coordinate and then numerous volunteers
are needed the week of the event to help with book selection and
check-out.

Shirt
Sales
|
One
of the things that make Cheyenne special is the uniforms. As long
as the shirts and shorts meet the uniform standards, they can
be purchased anywhere. The PTO sells uniform shirts that have
the Cheyenne Logo.
Volunteers
needed: 2-3 Coordinators who are responsible for ordering, keeping
inventory, filling orders of, sales booths through out school
year.

Spalding

Responsible
for Selling Spalding cards and CDs; filling orders through out
the year as necessary

Special
Events
|
We
have a number of "community builders" throughout the
year. Usually held at local restaurants that donate a portion
of the proceeds back to the PTO, these are a great time to connect
with other Cheyenne families.

Sports
Booster
|
Responsible
for Spirit Shirt sales and inventory (Rise N Shine sales and orders
throughout year). Supports all 7th and 8th grade sports with proceeds
from spirit shirt sales. Support includes: Team hoodie sweatshirt
sales, uniforms, athletic equipment, certificates and awards, coaches
gifts, first aid supplies, and other items as determined by coaches
and athletic director. Requests parent volunteers to post player
pictures on SPORTS bulletin board in cafeteria. Coordinates Sports
Booster Harvest Fest Booth (hot cocoa, coffee, and dessert). |

Performer

Presents
star performer student awards weekly on Tuesday Mornings
Collect
prizes from various local merchants; complete star performer certificates;
attach star to work and place work on bulletin board; return previous
star work to teacher mailbox

Used
Book Fair
|
This
is a huge event for Cheyenne! Lots of books are donated by the
Cheyenne community and then the sale is open to Cheyenne &
the local community over a Friday and Saturday.
Volunteers
needed: 2 Lead Coordinators at least 4 to 5 people everyday for
the 2 weeks and for the 2 days of the Book Sale.
Volunteers
with younger siblings may bring them to help.

Uniform Sales |
Where
can you get great prices on Cheyenne Uniforms? The used uniform
sale! Shirts, shorts, pants, and sweatshirts - all in good shape
and at a steal of a deal.
So,
what to do with those old uniforms that are in good shape, but
don't fit your kids anymore? Donate them to the used uniform sale!
Two
or three times a year Cheyenne PTO puts on a Used Uniform Sale
where the proceeds benefit Outreach.

the sales.
